The Archbishop H.E. Mor Titus Yeldho Pathickal, the patriarchal vicar of the Malankara Archdiocese of the Syrian Orthodox Church in North America, offered words of encouragement at a consultation on the MMRC July 1, 2004. He cited human endeavors ranging from the Titanic to the War in Iraq as examples of how humans may run amok if they depend too much on their own perspectives for direction in making key decisions of both a global and personal nature.
The archbishop led devotions at the outset of a daylong consultation involving Asian Church leaders in discussions of how the Multicultural Mission Resource Center (MMRC) at The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia may be of greatest benefit to the whole church. About 25 Asian pastors and church leaders took part.
On June 30, a group of multicultural church leaders took part in a conference with similar goals. The events were led by Seminary Dean J. Paul Rajashekar and the Rev. Dr. H.S. Wilson. Wilson occupies the H. George Anderson Chair of Missions and Cultures at the seminary. Wilson serves as a teacher, consultant and researcher in the center initiative.
