Seminary worship service PHILADELPHIA--The events of a year ago were recalled during a September 11 service of Holy Communion at 9:30 a.m. The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia, 7301 Germantown Avenue.
Preaching and prayers were included in the service. The Rev. Dr. Elizabeth Huwiler, Professor of Old Testament and Hebrew, presided, and the Rev. Dr. Philip D. W. Krey, Seminary President and Professor of Early Church History, preached. The public was invited to attend. "On Wednesday, September 11, communities in North America and in the whole world observed the first anniversary of the events in New York, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C., which led to the tragic deaths of thousands of people," said the Rev. Dr. Gordon Lathrop, Seminary Chaplain and Charles A. Schieren Professor of Liturgy. "Many residents of greater Philadelphia were looking for a community with which to pray on that day, and we wanted to welcome them." On September 11, this service of the Lord's Supper included preaching which reflected on the day and prayers which cried out for peace and justice in the world.
