Ministry to less fortunate
subject of special convocation

PHILADELPHIA--Alms and Advocacy, Lutheran Ministry with the Poor will be the topic for a special convocation featuring the Rev. Dr. H. George Anderson, immediate past presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). The convocation begins at 11:30 a.m. on February 18, in Hagan Amphitheater at The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia (LTSP). The seminary is located at 7301 Germantown Avenue in the city’s Mt. Airy section. The public is invited to attend this free event.

Bishop Anderson was ordained by the United Lutheran Church in America in 1956. He served on the faculty of Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, SC, from 1958 to 1970, and served as president of that seminary from 1970 to 1982. Anderson was elected the ELCA’s presiding bishop in 1995. Currently he is a visiting scholar on the LTSP campus for the spring 2003 semester.
