Expanding Our Public Witness

Overview:

Seminary Day is a one-day event on the campus of The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia. Individuals and groups from congregations are invited to Seminary Day and explore the theme, "Expanding our Public Witness." Through workshops, a hymn festival, worship and other activities, guests will reflect on the Public Witness of the church.

  • Led by Mark Mummer, Seminary Musician, and the Seminary Choir
• 11:35 "Expanding our Public Witness"

• 12:00 Lunch with Students, Faculty, Staff on the Seminary Lawn
• 1:00 Workshop I
• 2:00 Workshop II
• 3:00 Service of the Word and Sending
• 4:00 Final Workshop for Lutheran Women Today Bible Study series

Workshops:

Five different workshops will explore the practice and understanding of Christian Witness as seen in the New Testament, congregational life, our multicultural society, our baptismal calling and in the life and history of the Philadelphia Seminary. Many of the workshops will be offered twice, giving attendees the opportunity to pick and chose topics. A special Lutheran Women Today workshop series will be offered by Dr. Robin Mattison (see below for more information).

Special Partnership with WELCA:

The Seminary is pleased to partner with the Women of the ELCA to bring you Seminary Day. As part of Seminary Day Dr. Robin Mattison, Associate Professor of New Testament and Greek, will present three Lutheran Women Today Bible Studies, which she authored. Each of her workshops exploring Witness in the New Testament will present a different Bible Study. If you wish to be a part of this special Lutheran Women Today Bible Study series, click on the special box on the on-line registration form.

Cost is only $5 per person! Groups can pay at the door, but we ask that you please RSVP using the postcard included in the congregational mailing or this online form by Monday, September 8. Your timely registration will help us to adequately prepare food service and spacing needs.

Although guests are encouraged to attend Seminary Day with a group from their congregation, individuals and families are welcome to attend, too! If you are not coming as part of a congregational group please sign up using the form found below. Simply put the total number of people coming with you in the Number of People in Group column, and please kindly list your home congregation in the congregational information spaces.
