Seven Seminarians Receive Awards

Philadelphia, PA (December 7, 2004) - Seminarians awarded scholarships and honors today are, from left, Preston Thompson, Jr., Karen Safstrom, Andrew Evenson, Lura Groen, Virginia Cover, Joshua Wilson, and Giovanny Sanchez. Cover, Safstrom, Sanchez and Wilson received the Paul J. Hoh Award. The Hoh Award is given to seminarians on the basis of both academic merit and promise for ministry. Groen received the Traci L. Maul Award. The Maul Award recognizes outstanding leadership potential for ministry, active contribution to seminary community life and academic strength. Receiving the Karl Elser Wurster Memorial Scholarship was Evenson. The award is offered to a second-year seminarian showing promise for ministry and academic merit. Thompson received the Joseph Quinton Jackson Scholarship. The J. Q. Jackson Scholarship recognizes the African American student in the Urban Theological Institute with the highest cumulative GPA at the end of the spring term. That student is preparing for ordained ministry in one of the denominations represented in the UTI constituency. Seminary Dean J. Paul Rajashekar (center) and the seminary community are truly proud of their achievements.
