Dr. John W. Kinney is Dean of the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology
at Virginia Union University. Under his leadership, the school has initiated
a Doctor of Ministry Program, experienced unparalleled growth in the
Master of Divinity Program and expanded the continuing education program
to include national centers serving more than 9,000 lay and professional
church leaders. His esteem as a leader is not only due to his thorough
training and theological preparation, which includes Union Theological
Seminary at Columbia University, but also to his relationship with the
faculty and staff who affectionately and respectfully call him "Doc."
In addition to duties at VU, Kinney also serves in the parish as the
pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Beaverdam, VA, and dedicates time
to research and publishing.

Dr. Stacey M. Floyd-Thomas
Dr. Stacey Floyd-Thomas is assistant professor of Ethics and Black
Church Studies at Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University
in Fort Worth, TX. She holds a B.A from Vassar College, an M.T.S from
Emory University's Candler School of Theology, and an M.A. and Ph.D
from Temple University. She has earned numerous awards, fellowships
and grants. In addition to instructing at TCU, Dr. Floyd-Thomas has
taught at Virginia Tech, Vassar, Temple and the New Jersey Governor's
School at Stockton College. Dr. Floyd-Thomas has three books soon to
be released: Mining the Motherlode: Methodologies in Womanist Ethics
(Pilgrim Press - 2005), Introduction to Black Church Studies
(Abingdon Press - 2007) and Making It Plain: Approaches to African
American Christian Social Ethics (Abingdon Press - 2008).

The Rev. Tyrone D. Gordon
A nationally known revival preacher and workshop leader, Pastor Tyrone
D. Gordon is the former pastor of St. Mark's United Methodist Church
in Wichita, KS, which stands as one of the fastest growing African American
congregations in the UMC. Under his leadership, the congregation's membership
grew from 350 in 1988 to more than 2,500 in 2002. Since then, Pastor
Gordon, a Los Angeles native, has served as senior pastor of St. Luke's
Community Church; a Dallas, TX congregation with a membership of well
over 5,400. Gordon has received several major awards: the 2000 Brotherhood/Sisterhood
Award from the National Conference for Community & Justice, the
1998 National Citizen of the Year Award from the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity,
and a 1997 Denman Evangelism Award from the United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Stephen Gary Marsh
Pastor Stephen Gary Marsh serves as the Assistant to the Bishop for
African American Ministries and Synodical Outreach for the Southeast
Michigan Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The synod
includes 136 congregations, 223 rostered leaders and 70,000 members.
Pastor Marsh received a B.A. in philosophy in 1979 from Northwestern
University in Evanston, IL followed by his Master of Divinity from Trinity
Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, OH in 1983. During his time at Trinity
he had the opportunity to attend Makumira Theology College in Arusha,
Tanzania in 1981. Pastor Marsh has served in a number of parishes located
in Chicago, IL, Queens, NY, and Brooklyn, NY where he also served as
Vice President of the African American Lutheran Association of the Metropolitan
New York Synod.

The Rev. Dr. Robert M. Franklin, Jr.
Dr. Franklin is the Presidential Distinguished Professor of Social
Ethics at Atlanta's Candler School of Theology at Emory University.
At Emory he gained a national reputation as Director of Black Church
Studies. He then assumed the presidency of the Interdenominational Theological
Center, and served as program officer at the Ford Foundation where he
had primary responsibility for grants to African American churches engaged
in secular social service delivery. He also advised the president of
the foundation regarding future funding for religion and public life.
He has also served on the faculties of his alma maters, the University
of Chicago and Harvard University Divinity School, as well as the Colgate-Rochester
Divinity School. His major fields of study include social ethics, psychology
and African American religion.

Bishop Richard Franklin Norris

Bishop Norris was elected as the 116th Bishop of the African American
Episcopal Church in June 2000. Upon election he was sent to serve the
14th Episcopal District in West Africa, which includes Nigeria, Togo,
Benin, Liberia, Ghana, Sierra Leone and Cote D'lvoire. While in Africa
he rebuilt churches, schools and universities that had been destroyed
in the ongoing unrest in numerous areas. In June 2004, the Episcopal
Committee reassigned Bishop Norris to the First District, which includes
the eastern half of Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Massachusetts,
Rhode Island, Connecticut and Bermuda. Although born in Atlanta, Bishop
Norris was raised in Philadelphia. Prior to being elected to the Office
of Bishop, Bishop Norris served in Philadelphia as pastor of Mother
Bethel AME Church from 1986 to 1993 and St. Matthew AME Church from
1993 to 2000.

The Rev. Dr. James R. Thomas

Dr. Thomas is pastor of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in the
Bronx, NY. He has served several congregations and organizations in
New York City and the surrounding areas since 1976 including working
as a Critical Incident Stress Management Counselor at Ground Zero during
the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack. Dr. Thomas has significant
teaching experience. He is currently serving as a special education
teacher for the City of New York Department of Education at the Fordham
Leadership Academy of Business and Technology. In addition, he has taught
at Augsburg College, Virginia Union School of Theology and Luther Seminary.
Dr. Thomas has substantial military experience. He served with the U.S.
Air Force Reserve for more than 30 years, most recently serving as Command
Chaplain. He serves as the Senior Chaplain, Lieutenant Colonel with
the New York Air National Guard in Westhampton Beach, NY.

Preaching with Power: A Forum on Black Preaching and Theology
is sponsored by the Urban Theological Institute of The Lutheran Theological
Seminary at Philadelphia. The UTI offers African American leaders:
- An accredited theological education for congregational ministerial
leaders who have not completed basic seminary preparation.
- The opportunity to develop theological skills either to enhance
their ministry as laypersons or to become bi-vocational or full-time
pastoral ministers.
