Joining other Lutheran volunteers in assisting Upper Bucks County resident Lou Donoso in cleaning his flooded home July 8 is Kathie Afflerbach, LTSP's Foundation database administrator and a member of St.John's, Quakertown, second from right. Her colleagues are, from left, the Rev.William Rex, pastor of St. Luke's, Ferndale, a member of the region's Lutheran Disaster Response Task Force; Pat Hartley of St. Peter's, Riegelsville; Donoso; Brooke Rush and Roger Beer, members of St. Matthew's (Kellers Church), Perkasie; and Larry Frey of Christ, Tinicum. Donoso, who's been retired 26 years from his job as a machinist for Bethlehem Steel, lives on a fixed income. "I don't know where I would be without you people," Donoso said to the volunteers Saturday. "I'm getting to old to deal with this by myself." Donoso, 85, lived 38 years in his simple bungalow on Canal Road in Raubsville without serious flooding until less than two years ago. The home has been flooded three times since, most recently in late June. Seminarians JoEllen Morrison, Rebecca Richie and Chris Bridge and her son, Tim, were among volunteers who assisted homeowners in Upper Black Eddy July 8. (See Disaster News story.) Volunteers are needed in the weeks ahead. (See information at http://www.ministrylink.org/) |
