Commencement 2000

Senior Seminarian John Mack receives a "surprise" gift several days before the Seminary's 136th Commencement exercises. Archivist John Peterson, second from right, presented Mack with a collection of Luther's Works in grateful appreciation for many days Mack worked as a volunteer to assist in organizing archival material from the campus of Upsala College when the college closed its doors several years ago. Peterson had recalled that Mack longed for such a collection as he worked to package the volumes for archival purposes and decided to make the gift possible. Participating with Peterson in the presentation are, from left, Seminary President Philip D. W. Krey, Director of Contextual Education Charles Leonard, a member of Upsala's administrative staff at the time the college closed, and (at right) Professor Timothy J. Wengert, who teaches Reformation History at the Seminary.
