(December 2000)--The Theological Education with Youth initiative
at LTSP has been awarded a $14,100 grant from Lutheran Brotherhood
to fund ministry leadership projects undertaken by Summer Theological
Academy scholars in the TEY program.
The grant provides for scholars to work with their pastors
and congregational leaders to envision an initiative to benefit
the life of their congregation in some way. This congregational
initiative takes some shape before each scholar participates
in the Summer Academy, develops during Academy participation,
and is enacted after the youth return home. Each congregational
initiative may receive up to $750 for a project developed and
implemented during the year following a scholar's Academy participation.
"The idea is for each scholar to have a chance in a visionary
and practical way to exercise leadership back home," says TEY
Director H. William Bixby. "It is a way for them to carry on
the learnings and impulses for new ministry generated within
the Academy experience."
Lutheran Brotherhood will also provide personal leadership
support to the congregational initiative team, Bixby says. The
grant was provided by Eastern Pennsylvania Agency #140 and Mid-Atlantic
Group #145 of LB.
