LTSP Opening Day 2008

The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia celebrated the start of its 145th academic year with Opening Day on Tuesday, September 2, 2008. The day began with Opening Eucharist in Benbow Hall of The Brossman Center as renovations continue to the Schaeffer-Ashmead Chapel and adjacent plaza. President Philip D.W. Krey shared a warm and welcoming sermon which focused on hospitality and humility. At the end of worship, new staff and professors were ceremonially inducted and good luck and Godspeed was offered to departing Foundation Vice President The Rev. Glenn Miller.

Later in the morning, Professor Katie Day presented the Opening Day Convocation speaker, The Rev. Dr. Robert B. Robinson, Anna Burkhalter Professor, Old Testament and Hebrew at LTSP. Prof. Robinson entitled his lecture "Scripture and Public Theology."

The festivities wrapped up with a communal picnic on the lawn in front of the President's house.
