John Kahler has been working in academic media support for more than 20 years, 15 of them at the University of Pennsylvania, followed by two years at public broadcaster WHYY where he managed the Home College Service online effort, before coming to LTSP in 2000. He has been involved in many activities that have brought new technologies into instruction, from early interactive television to television-delivered training, computer graphics and videoconferencing and Internet delivered instructional materials. He has presented several papers at international meetings, both on site and virtual. John is a Communications graduate of Temple University, and a life member of the Media Communications Association-International (formerly ITVA), the international association for television and multimedia communicators, and a member of the Digital Video Professionals Association. John is also an independent video producer and multimedia developer who has written and produced programs for the Pennsylvania Attorney General, University of Pennsylvania Health System, University of Pennsylvania Admissions, Sports Video, Inc., Urorad, Inc., photoresults.com and other clients. John and his wife Carol live in the Mount Airy section of Philadelphia, and are members of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Springfield, Delaware County, PA. Carol is a part-time seminary student and an at-large member of Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod Council.
